Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling & Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health
The Rehabilitation Counseling Programs at the UK College of Education are committed to providing the highest quality clinical rehabilitation counselor education and rehabilitation counseling in mental health programs. We are a growing profession, and the need for trained rehabilitation professionals has never been greater.
The Rehabilitation Counseling Programs are located on the beautiful campus of the University of Kentucky within the College of Education in the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling. We have consistently been rated in the top 20 of rehabilitation counseling programs nationwide. The Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program is fully accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). Accreditation ensures that we meet the highest standards of training and professionalism. This also enables students and graduates to be eligible to sit for the national rehabilitation counseling certification examination. We are currently under review for accreditation by the Council for Accreditation for Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Students who enroll in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health track take RC 680 Mental Health Diagnosis and Treatment Planning; RC 640 Chemical Dependence; and RC 558 Crisis, Disaster, and Trauma Response for Persons With Disabilities. Students in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program take 6-9 elective credits in an area of intent and for a minor concentration.
Our students benefit from our exceptional and nationally recognized faculty, who bring diverse professional backgrounds, research interests, and areas of expertise to the educational experience. We encourage our students to participate fully in the wide range of professional, educational, and research opportunities that we offer. Students also benefit from our strong ties to the local, state, and national rehabilitation community, and from our relationship with the University of Kentucky’s Human Development Institute, Medical Center, and many other University of Kentucky schools, colleges, departments, and programs.
